“Vescovi makes you wish you wish you could taste Tony’s wine, Desolina’s tortellini; makes you wish you had grandparents like these”.The Internet Review of Books“Eat Now; Talk Later offers a model of how to tell family stories humorously yet respectfully, from a culture that isn’t tell-all”.Ambassador Magazine (National Italian American Foundation)“The most endearing quality of Vescovi’s stories is without a doubt the genuine, laugh-while-you-are-reading humor, which he exposes without a trace of ridicule.”Catholic Fiction“This memoir celebrates the breath of family life: loyalty, struggle, humor and love.”La Gazzetta Italiana“A book for everyone, for those in Italy eager to know more of Italian Americans and for those who in this book can find their roots and laugh, smile and be moved.”Italian Heritage MagazineYou do not have to be Italianto appreciate Vescovi’s book, as every story gives the reader an understanding of what it is like to have family with a foWonderful phrases. Although my grandparents came from China, and his are Italian, the instances of resilience, bewilderment, pride and dignity felt so familiar to me. This perspective of the American kid, the Old World grandparents, and the generation caught in between were juxtaposed to create this crazy quilt of relationships. I sensed that the stories were not embellished- they didn't have to be, because Vescovi has the wisdom to know that people are fascinating, just the way they are.. My favorite may be the photo of him and his grandparents at his commencement from grad school -- "Extra College" they call it.. True to life stories of this beloved grandparents and their antics. You'll laugh and cry.A true American success story, I highly recommend this wonderful book!John T.March 2014. A wonderful book and arrived in great condition!!!! When Tony and Desolina Vescovi arrived in America, they collided with the 20th century. This collection of stories can be read before bed, on a lunch hour, or waiting in line. It was up to their only child, a son, to serve as their shepherd, and it wasn't easy For example, how to explain that his job was taking him and his family 700 miles away when, in their day, sons stayed put to work the family farm? Or that it wasn't wise to hide $10,000 in the bedroom? Or that the ice cream they just tried and enjoyed is called 'Chubby Hubby'? This collection of 52 bite-size stories offers a twist on the American immigrant tale and is a testament to love, loyalty, and frequent half-truths.. Born around 1900, they were stumped by telephones, banks, fast food, TV wrestling, and supermarkets. Prepare yourself for a feast consumed in delicious bites.
